Anti-pirate strike ends after 16 hours
PANAMA’S bus strike, launched by owner groups to protest the spread of unlicensed pirate buses lasted just 16 hours.
At noon on Tuesday, July 14, the President, Juan Carlos Varela announced that if the strike continued, the revocation of operating licenses would be considered.
“We did not think that they would act as irresponsibility as they have. It seems that there is a political pollution in the strike. Those who insist on continuing the strike will have their licenses evaluated,” said Varela.
The strike, decreed by the transportista’s union, Canatra, affected thousands of citizens who travel to the city of Panama, from the western area of Arriajan and La Chorrera and the municipality of San Miguelito.
