Canal expansion to create new gas market
THE PANAMA CANAL expansion will create a new trade project with the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal.
The first steps were taken this week with the signing of a technical cooperation agreement with the US Agency for Trade and Development ,to boost planning of a terminal for a market that will open up for the country when the expanded waterway is operational ,says a press release from the Canal authority.
“When the expansion is completed, the waterway will be able to serve the segment of LNG vessels, therefore the Panama Canal seeking to develop projects in this market, including a terminal.” The expansion is scheduled to be operational in 2016.
