Prosecutor needs more time to find spy equipment traced to 99 HQ

THE SECOND Anti-Corruption prosecutor has requested an extension in the investigation into the disappearance of a technological equipment for illegal wiretapping in the administration of former president Ricardo Martinelli.

 The equipment was purchased from an Israeli company with funds from the National Assistance Program (PAN) for $13.4 million.
A source close to the investigation told La Prensa that the extension was requested by the prosecutor, Vielka Broce, after she reached the period allowed by law to complete the summary while she still has outstanding procedures to be followed in the process for dealing with those responsible for its disappearance.
The investigation began on December 2, when the Secretary of the National Security Council,(CSN) Rolando Lopez Perez, filed an embezzlement complaint against the former director of CSN, Alejandro Garuz.
It was learned that the file of the prosecutor’s has sworn statements from agents Jubilo Graell Javier Quiroz, who narrated in detail the whole operation involving the transfer of the equipment from the -headquarters of the Security Council in Ancon to the offices of Super 99, owned by former President Ricardo Martinelli,, in Monte Oscuro.
The testimonials are in the record of the Prosecutor Against Organized Crime, investigating eavesdropping of 150 people with a trial order set for Garuz, and Gustavo Perez, former head of the CSN and ex agents Ronny Rodriguez and William Pittí who are fugitives.
