Prosecutor demands Judges house arrest, suspension

THE NATIONAL  Assembly Deputy,Jorge Alberto Rosas, acting as prosecutor ecutor in the case involving Supreme Court Justice Victor Benavides, has called for the   Judge’s suspension and for his house arrest.

A Tribunal hearing, has been set for June 23, which will be the first times Benavides will be forced to appear personally in the process. At the hearing, the tribunal will decide whether to accept the pending charges, which relate to the alleged selling of verdicts by the judge.

Rosas is also seeking to have additional accounts linked to the judge frozen. One account belonging to the judge, containing $424,000 in the National Bank of Panama has already been seized reports La Prensa.
Benavides is the second judge to be investigated by the National Assembly within the last year. In the first case, former Supreme Court Justice Alejandro Moncada Luna pleaded guilty to unjustified enrichment and other charges and was sentenced to five years in prison
