Judge rejects blocking motions by PAN defendants

MOTIONS presented by lawyers for Mario Martinelli, the brother of the former president, and Diego Dolande De Ycaza, claiming that the first anti-corruption prosecutor has exceeded the time limit to investigate over expenditures in the purchase of grains with funds from the National Assistance program (PAN) have been rejected

Martinelli Berrocal and Ycaza Dolande are being investigated along with former PAN Director Rafael Guardia Jaén; former presidential private secretary Adolfo “Chichi” De Obarrio; Ricardo Martinelli; former Comptroller Gioconda Torres de Bianchini; head of purchasing of Super 99 supermarket Roberto Brin and business owners Pablo Ruiz Obregón, Félix Fernández Miranda and Aldo Mangravita, among others.
Fifteenth Criminal Court Judge Leslie Loaiza said that the time taken by prosecutor Tania Sterling “is appropriate in view of the complexity and scope of the case.”
