Bloody weekend, 8 traffic deaths, 7 homicides

EIGHT people died in traffic accidents across the Panamanian Isthmus on the weekend following Christmas and there were seven gang related assassinations.

Police  and radio reports highlight some of the fatalities.

A 47-year old father and his daughter,17, died Saturday night after their  truck collided with another vehicle on the Pan American Highway in the Las Vueltas district of Chiriqui.

A  51 year-old man, was hit and killed by a car while crossing the road  in La Siesta, in the village of Tocumen. The car, driven by a 23-year old, rolled after the impact.

In Los Santos near the abattoir on the road leading to Pedasi, a young man was killed when a pickup carrying three people overturned. One of the passengers lost an arm.

Thedriver of a delivery truck was killed near Capira when he lost control of the vehicle

On Friday, on the Panama – Colon highway, two men died when re, a fuel truck collided with a truck  in use for highway maintenance . One died on the spot, another in hospital.

HOMICIDES

There were seven assassinations on the weekend, bringing the total from December 24-28 to nine, reports El Siglo.
