Martinelli stays mum on missing spy equipment
THE MYSTERY of the disappearance of nearly $14 million of spying equipment purchased for the National Security Council during the rule of former President Ricardo Martinelli has left him silent.
La Prensa went to at Martinelli’s office building in Punta Pacifica, but the former president chose not to comment.
This, despite the involvement in the case of Alejandro Garuz, father of the wife of Martinelli’s
younger son.
According to a complaint filed by the current head of the National Security Council, Rolando López, the agency bought a spy equipment that has not yet been found.
Garuz, in a press conference that he organized, said he knew nothing of the purchase and never saw it in the inventory he received, and knew nothing of a spy team when he took office in September 2012.
His predecessor, Gustavo Pereze said that he had seen strange things in the institution and was grateful for having not been there long.
Julio Moltó and Olmedo Alfaro, who also directed the Council, said they did not know anything.
President Juan Carlos Varela said that the disapperance is embezzlement and those responsible must be brought to justice.
