Controversial comptroller hospitalized
A DAY after anti –corruption demonstrators were on the Cinta Costera, calling for her head, Panama’s Comptroller, Gioconda Torres de Bianchini was taken to San Fernando Hospital. Her office said it had no information about any medical problem suffered by the official.
She was in a room of the hospital in the company of her family.
Her term expires Dec. 31. The National Assembly has not yet decided on a replacement but the Assembly has been asked to discuss it during the upcoming extraordinary session.
Torres de Bianchini worked for former president Ricardo Martinelli for 15 years before he appointed her to the post and she has been accused of failing to rein in over expenditures and for rubber stamping controversial direct contracts.
