Teachers still awaiting pay increase from Martinelli era
THE OUTGOING Comptroller of Panama has been sitting on the pay increases granted to certified educatos by the Ministry of Education (Meduca) in the previous administration, and teachers will take to the streets in front of the Controleria on Avenida Balboa on Thursday November 12.
Diogenes Sanchez, secretary of the The Association of Teachers of Panama (ASOPROF) said that the measure was agreed ata a November 1 meeting, because there are about 15,000 teachers of different educational regions who have who have not been paid the $ 15000 increase, and others the $300 which were the increases promised by Meduca as part of an education improvement plan.
This project established in Educational Evaluation System Services (ETS), was driven by the former Minister of Education, Lucy Molinar, and began in April this year, however, there are teachers who have just received a payment.
Sanchez said educators are concerned that, if it is not done before 2014 expires, the process will be more complex.
He said that Meduca payments rest with the Comptroller.
