Another Martinelli appointment ends
National Revenue Authority (ANIP) Director Luis Cucalón has resigned. Cucalón sent a letter to President Juan Carlos Varela in which he announced his irrevocable decision.
Cucalón had been appointed head of the agency through 2020 by former President Ricardo Martinelli. But a Supreme Court decision declared the agency to be unconstitutional, and the government has replaced it with the General Revenue Department, which will be under the control of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Cucalón had sought a clarification of the ruling, but was rejected because he did not meet the legal requirement for making a claim.
The Ministry has not yet named a replacement for Cucalón.
