Varela spikes Martinelli compensation plan

PRESIDENT Juan Carlos Varela repealed on Wednesday July 9, the Decree which provides compensation to public employees who resign or are dismissal by the government.
The decision was published in the Government Gazette on Wednesday afternoon.
The new decree applies to 205,119 government workers.
It carries the signature of Varela and Minister of Labor Luis Ernesto Carles. The original decree was published in the Gazette five days before former President Ricardo Martinelli left office. The document established compensation to public servants who are resigned or dismissed – justified or unjustified – from their posts. It was widely seen as a move intended to embarrass the incoming government.
