Erring motorists will soon be on camera
IF YOU are one of the drivers who like to get ahead of fellow motorists on the highway by using the shoulder, beware. You may soon be on camera.
The Transit agency ATTT has begun testing the traffic control camera system to catch drivers who are spotted committing infractions.
ATTT Director Roberto Moreno said that tests will be carried out this month and drivers caught committing infractions will be warned.
Moreno said the new administration will decide whether it will continue with the moral sanctions or start imposing fines.
Twenty cameras that have been installed and drivers have already been caught committing violations. The drivers will be notified of infractions either through telephone calls or e-mails.
In addition to speeding, the devices record drivers who use the shoulder to avoid traffic. No word yet on cameras at traffic lights to help control Panama’s version of chicken as drivers cross on red
