Martinelli claim denied by Copa chief

A PRESIDENT Martinelli claim that the reduction in the protected area of the Bay of Panama, was needed for the expansion of Tocumen International Airport and Copa Airlines was immediately denied by the Copa Chairman
Pedro Heilbron, said he is opposed to the reduction. "The law to reduce wetlands goes far beyond what is required at Tocumen in 10 years. Leave it as it is," he said.
Allegations have been made that the proposal would benefit developers with ties to the current government and the reduction has been widely condemned by environmentalists. The area is a staging post for migrating birds from the Canadian Arctic, and a home to scores of species.
