Martinelli retirement plans include weight loss surgery
AS VOTERS flocked to polling stations to choose his successor who will assume office on July 1, President Ricardo Martinelli mused on Sunday, May 4, about his future.
He told media that his plans once he leaves office include undergoing cosmetic surgery, and he is planning gastric bypass surgery to help him lose weight. "I tried to diet but it doesn't work," he said.
Leaving his residence in Altos del Golf at 7:30 a.m., the president spoke about his expectations of the election and the tone of the campaign, as well as his plans after he leaves office, reports La Prensa.
He said that, in addition to the surgeries, he plans to travel and "enjoy life." He said he will also return to work as a supermarket executive, oversee the Ricardo Martinelli Foundation and will continue to be linked to politics as president of the CD party.
Martinelli made a call to the country to recognize the results of the election. He also noted that he will have more power away from the presidency because, as president, he said he has many "limits.
He recalled that in the elections of 2009, his rival, Balbina Herrera, did not recognize his triumph, something that, five years later, still bothers him.
"There will be a broad winner, but in the Assembly no party will have the majority," he predicted, so the parties will have to seek a consensus.
Regarding false covers of La Prensa, that were circulated hours before the polls opened, the president repudiated dirty campaigns.
