Paitilla residents lament unplanned construction

INADEQUATE planning for development in Punta Paitilla continues to worry residents with the construction of a retaining wall on a site where building was halted, third latest concern.

The wall is being built in the area where seven months ago the Directorate of Works and Buildings ordered the Municipality of Panama suspend the construction of the Ocean Front PH , whose promoter is Ocean Front Holding , SA , does not have the appropriate permissions reports La Prensa.

Zerbinati Laura , who has lived in the Plaza Mar building for 38 years and is one of those affected by the building Ocean Front, said that since the work began last year, causing the collapse of a wall about 10 meters wide and damage in the basement of an adjoining building (La Lique ), the company has continued to work. Another inhabitant, Dario Vasquez Wolf, eight years living in Torre del Mar , said that not only is contemplated to make the Ocean Front building of about 40 stories , but it is planned to build another project called Sea Point, three towers of buildings 30 floors each.
These buildings without any planning, “violate the rights of the residents of Punta Paitilla " says Moses Garzón, a lawyer and resident of PH Royal Princess .
All agreed that in that space "there is a building," especially if you are not planning an orderly planning growth.
Problems with sewage, waste water, traffic congestion and insecurity are consequences, according to neighbors, of the inactivity of the authorities to structure a comprehensive plan to Punta Paitilla and other parts of the city
The engineer in charge of the Ocean Front work, Eric Espino said that they have all necessary permits for the excavation of about 12 meters deep, three meters over the sea level, to build the retaining wall.
With this he seeks to ensure the safety of buildings bordering the work. He said work Is scheduled to end in two months and the building construction is set to start in July.

Director of Works and Buildings of the City of Panama , Juan Manuel Vasquez said that the land on which the project is placed has had approved zoning high density for 20 years .

He said that the construction company has permission for the excavation and construction of the wall, but said they have not received permission to build the tower, because they carry out the necessary studies.
