Panama a spokesman for “US Empire”, Ortega
NICARAGUAN president Daniel Ortega on, Tuesday, March 11, described the government of Panama as "a spokesman for the interests of the empire," referring to the United States and the situation in Venezuela.
"At the OAS a battle was fought , and there was a closing of ranks with the Panamanian government , appearing as a spokesman for the interests of the United States empire," Ortega said in a speech delivered at the opening of a wind energy project in Rivas, 111 kilometers south of Managua.
According to the Nicaraguan President, the United States "saw the OAS as a way to take action culminating in invasions as have been previously known."
President Martinelli had called on the OAS to summon an emergency meeting of OAS Foreign Ministers to discuss the Venezuelan situation. Instead the body voted 29 to 3 to send a supportive resolution to Venezuela. The three votes against were Panama, The USA, and Canada.
President Ricardo Martinelli had earlier been described as a US "lackey" by Venezuelan President Maduro.

Ortega also referred to Ukraine, whose president, Viktor Yanukovich, was overthrown by popular protests reports the Efe Newsagency.
"They are making conspiracies, what they have in Ukraine, is the same scheme that was used in Honduras with the overthrow of (Manuel) Zelaya ," said the president.
Ortega called on Latin American for integration and unity.
"We do not want intervention," he said, "you have to respect the government," he said, referring to Venezuela.
President Ortega is known to be a close ally of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, and sympathizes with the policy of Russia, which does not support the overthrow of Yanukovich.
