Business leaders attack planned landfill at Atlapa

THE PANAMANIAN Association of Business Executives ( APEDA ) has called for alternativ financing for the planned expansion of the Corridor Sur promoted by the National Highway Company (ENA ).

In a letter to ENA, the APEDE said it is "very concerned" the land fill of 44 hectares, is intended to solve a financial problem for the institution rather thancontribute to urban and city road development.”

APEDA says: "It is necessary that two separate studies of environmental impact be made, as they are two different projects. "That is, a study for the expansion of Corridor Sur and one for the filling of 44 hectares.”
It also expresses concern that "This project will not solve the knots at the junction of Paitilla and Atlapa because they are not covered in the proposed construction of the extension of the corridor, that will continue with the same urban and road problems."
The letter carries the signature of President Fernando Aramburu Porras and is “the product of careful analysis by the Planning Commission and Transportation of the Association” reports La Prensa
The expansion project of the South Corridor, totaling $509 million, has four elements: the extension of the corridor, at a cost of $ 146 million , a filling of 44 hectares fronting Atlapa, $153 million, an elevated viaduct from Atlapa ro the Cinta Costera $ 160 million and the connection of Ave 12 de October with Corridor Sur, known as branch Ernesto T. Lefevre, at a cost of $50 million.
