Various sectors have questioned the decision, saying it is being disguised as a way to re-elect President Ricardo Martinelli.

Political scientist Obaldia Themistocles said that the choice of Linares represents a blow to democracy and the institutional structure of the country. He also said that it makes CD presidential candidate José Domingo Arias "disposable" if he wins the election reports La Prensa
"Clearly it is a disguise for re-election," he said. "Honestly, with this the country could enter into crisis, since it is seriously losing credibility."
Former ambassador to the United States Ricardo Alberto said the nomination is a violation of the Constitution.
"I have no objection to her occupying a public post, but in these conditions, being the wife of the president, the Constitution prohibits it," he said.
Former Attorney General Ana Matilde Gómez said that the debate is not Constitutional, since Linares is not a blood relation to the president, but rather a debate on the abuse of power within the state.
