Three injured at canal expansion site
THREE PEOPLE were injured Friday, January 10 in an accident at the site of the Panama Canal expansion locks.
The workers were injured by a falling slab of concrete.
Hector Hurtado, of the construction workers union Suntracs, said the injured workers were taken to the Social Security Medical Complex for treatment says La Prensa
"One (of the workers) was buried under concrete, but he was rescued and is receiving primary care," said Hurtado.
The accident comes in the midst of a dispute between the Panama Canal Authority and the contracting consortium GUPC over cost overruns of the expansion with threats of a cessation of work being bandied about.
