Dengue epidemic records fourth death

A FOURTH death from dengue fever was announced Thursday, January 3, by Panama’s Ministry of Health.

With 3,232 cases reported in 2013, three times the amount in 2012, the nationwide dengue alert was recently upgraded to epidemic

The National Health Director Carlos Gálvez said that the latest death case was in the Mateo Iturralde district of San Miguelito.
Gálvez said that Panama City and San Miguelito have the highest number of dengue cases.
Officials are asking residents to cooperate with ongoing efforts to eliminate breeding sites of the aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits the disease.
