Student, police face off creates traffic snarl
PANAMA’S never ending traffic logjam got worse on Wednesday morning, November 18, when students faced off against the National Police riot squad.
For the second consecutive day, a group of students of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences students at the University of Panama (UP) came out to protest and closed one lane of the highway
When the riot police arrived later to reopen the road they tear gassed the demonstrators and a massive traffic jam developed.
The students were protesting the sale of land from the UP to the Tocumen airport expansion, at a cost of $109.8 which they argued, has not been paid .
"These are those who sell the Nation " chanted the students while burning a doll with the image of Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli as the traffic snarl spread through the area and beyond.
