10th province plan facing opposition

GOVERNMENT plans to create a 10th province with Chorrea as the capital city,  announced this week, have already run into opposition.

On Thursday, October 31 A group of Arraijan residents held a protest to oppose the initiative that includes their community.

Protesters including several political from theareagathered at a sports field and marched to the Pan-American Highway.
The Highway was closed, causing a major traffic jam.
After a dialogue with the National Police, the protesters withdrew, but promised further action.
This week the National Assembly approved the creation of the tenth province, comprised of the districts of Capira, Arraijan, Chame, La Chorrera and San Carlos.
