Navarro gets backing of former Spanish president

JUAN CARLOS Navarro the PRD presidential candidate got a fillip from a former president of Spain on Friday, November 25.

Former President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero on a visit to Panama said that the PRD has an excellent chance to win the 2014 election.

"I come to support Juan Carlos as a candidate, and to return the friendship that I have always had with Panama," he said after meeting with PRD leaders.
Rodriguez Zapatero, who was president from 2004-2011, did not give any campaign advice to Navarro, but described him as a candidate with a great perspective for the future.
He said that the PRD, if it secures the presidency has a "great challenge" of reducing inequalities and improving the education and health systems.
Meanwhile, Navarro said that his party will focus on social programs and added, "it is so important to hear ideas and receive the backing of former President Rodríguez Zapatero."
Former Presidents Nicolas Ardito Barletta, Ernesto Pérez Balladares and Martín Torrijos also attended the meeting.
