Panama coach apologizes to Mexican fans over joke
PANAMA COACH Julio Dely Valdés apologized Thursday October 10 for a joke he made about the Mexican players prior to Friday's World Cup qualifier between the two countries at the Stadium Azteca.
The game is crucial as the two teams are tied in qualifying, and both need a victory to advance.
"I do not make one apology , but thousands of apologies from whomever I offended with my joke," Dely Valdés said.
He made the comment Saturday when referring to the presence of naturalized players from Argentina on the Mexican team.
Dely Valdés said: "Will they be singing the national anthem of Mexico or Argentina."
Today he said he never wanted to offend those born in Mexico who will be at the game or those who have been naturalized.
Panama ended its preparations for the game in Fort Lauderdale, and traveled to Mexico later in the day.
