Teacher strike ends, 20,000 students back to school

20,000 STUDENTS affected by the strike of teachers demanding the repeal of Decree 920, will return to their classrooms on Monday August 26.

The news came after two days of face to face discussions between the leaders of the teachers unions and the Ministry of Education (Meduca), represented by the Deputy Minister, Mirna de Crespo and Deputy Jose Herrera Kievers with Ombudsman Javier Mitil acting as mediator

Saturday’s meeting began at 1:30 pm and lasted about six hours, says La Prensa. One of the main points discussed concerned wage deductions for striking teachers.
It was agreed that the discount for the days not worked will be effective only if the teacher does not make up the content lost during the strike days. Meduca pledged repay the deducted.
