Ombudsperson’s ordeal continues
SUSPENDED Ombudsperson Patria Portugal on Monday circled one of the last laps in her marathon ordeal explaining the controversial contracts she issued while in office.
She made her second appearance in the National Assembly, this time before the Credentials Committee.
After the session, Portugal left without speaking to journalists.
The Credentials Committee will reconvene Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. to analyze the case and make a recommendation to the plenary of the National Assembly.
Deputy Mario Miller, president of the Commission, said that the decision will only be a recommendation.
"We are not the judge," he said.
The committee has five days to make a recommendation.
She was suspended from her position by the Supreme Court and still has to face a criminal investigation for alleged embezzlement.
