Parents of surviving babies on roller coaster
THE PARENTS of three babies still hospitalized in the neonatal room of the Arnulfo Arias Madrid Medical Complex, are still on an emotional roller coaster.
The infants are suffering from the same complications that resulted in the deaths of nine newborns in the unit in June and their condition fluctuates from stable to regression One of the early survivors died last week.
Social Security official Gustavo Santamaría stated that the three babies "are getting better" but that there are times when their condition is stable and other times when it deteriorates.
"Stability is important in these patients," he said. "The fight is not to fall back but to move toward getting them better."
He said it is possible that one of them will soon be discharged.
The investigation into the deaths is continuing with International experts also working on the case.
