More calls for Patria Portugal resignation
CALLS FOR the resignation of Panama’s Ombudsperson, Patria Portugal, for "bad public resource management" are gaining in number and strength.
Angelica Maytín, chief executive of the Foundation for the Development of Panamanian Civic Freedom, a Chapter of Transparency International (TI) said on Sunday July 7, that it would be would be unacceptable after the exposures published by the media, for Portugal to continue in the position.
"We as a human rights organization believe that we are going to be filled with shame if the current Defender lets this process go to the National Assembly. she will have to make the painful decision to resign, but she cannot stay in office ", said Maytin.
She was speaking on Open Debate on RPC Channel 4.
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and Youth leader of the ruling Democratic Change (CD), Luis Eduardo Camacho, said the authorities should conduct an investigation and if warranted separate her from office.
The National Assembly President, Sergio Gálvez, announced on Tuesday that the board of the Assembly will call Portugal for alleged bad management of the Office of the Ombudsman.
