First Metro train en route from Colon

PANAMA’S FIRST Metro train left the Port of Manzanillo in Colónon Monday March 3, on its way by road to its future home.

The train cars arrived in the Colón port on May 25. They are being transferred to the facilities of the Line One Consortium, which is building the Metro, near the Centenario Bridgewhere the assembly process will be completed.

The cars were built in the Alstom Transport Plant, in Santa Perpetua, Barcelona, Spain.
They are being moved from the port on Alberto Motta Highway.
Metro, Line One will have 12 stations and extend 13.7 kilometers, including 7.3 kilometers underground. It is expected to begin service in early 2014.
