Opponents question Martinelli joy ride as country faces problems

 "I HOPE that the cost of the trip has been paid by him," said Panameñista presidential candidate Juan Carlos Varela on Sunday, May 26 after it was revealed that President Ricardo Martinelli was in Monaco.

Martinelli was caught by television cameras today watching the Monaco Grand Prix Formula One race alongside Prince Alberto II.

The visit was not previously announced.
Varela said he is waiting to hear an explanation from Martinelli once he returns to the country.
PRD presidential candidate Juan Carlos Navarro wrote on his Twitter account: "It is regrettable that while Panamanians are suffering the high cost of living, lack of water and problems with transport, President Martinelli is on this trip to Monaco."
