Martinelli frustrated by Metro bus problems

PRESIDENT Ricardo Martinelli said Tuesday, May 7 that he feels frustrated by the constant criticisms he receives about Mi Bus, the operator of the Metro Bus system.

This issue has me frustrated," Martinelli said, saying he sympathized with users who face long delays.
Martinelli demanded that both Mi Bus and Sonda, the company that handles the pre-paid Metro cards, comply with the contracts they signed.
"I will not allow them to continue abusing the Panamanian people," Martinelli said. "They must give the proper level of transportation service that we hired them to provide."
He reiterated that Mi Bus must add vehicles to its fleet and that the transit authority (ATTT) has been told to continue to pressure the companies to improve service.
He said that part of the problem lies in the fact that "we have created so many expectations, that people become upset if a program is not 100 percent effective."
He said that the transport system will continue to improve as the projects to improve the city's infrastructure are completed.
"I'm going to do what I have to do to make this system work," Martinelli said
