Real chances to showcase your acting talent
By Lourdes Quijada
Forget home histrionics, playing up to your partner or casting suggestive glances in a local night spot, Now’s your chance to display your talent to a wider audience.
If you have ever had an ambition to tread the boards, two opportunities are beckoning.
The Theatre Guild of Ancon is holding auditions for its next play, Point Break Live Panama!, this weekend, April 6 and 7, from 2 pm to 5 pm each day.
A note from the director says the play is an adaptation of: “the most badass surf bank robbery action thriller of all time.” It is in fact the movie on stage “with a brilliant twist,” which I am guessing is something more than being set in Panama. So let me pass you over to the director who will be awaiting your arrival, both days
“The play will be an over-the-top, action-packed comedy in a punk-theater setting. So bring on your best Patrick Swayze for the role of zen surfer guru/bankrobber, Bodhi. Also looking for surfer dude type guys (20-30) for Ex-Dictators gang. Bring on your best John C McGinley– angry uptight male (20-40) for role of Agent Harp. Cute funny female to play tomboy surfer girl, Tyler (Lori Petty in movie). Plus many more! We are looking for men ages 20's to 50's and women 20's to 40's. All roles involve cursing and gunplay, uninhibited attitude (no prima-donna types) and a terrific sense of humor and improv ability." Sounds better than acting up at home and asking forgiveness and not permission.
Opportunity number two will come up later in the month for a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre presentation, coming to a restaurant near you courtesy of the CanadaPLUS Club. I will give you the full details when the director works out the rehearsal schedule for the play which will be presented late August, but I can tell you that it involves a mad scientist and a not very bright assistant.
