Foreign minister appointment sparks senior resignation

The appointment of Governor of Cocle, Fernando Nunez Fabrega, as Panama’s Foreign minister to replace Romulo Roux has led to the resignation of the Deputy Foreign Minister.

Fabrega is the fourth person to head the Foreign Ministry of Panama since Ricardo Martinelli took office in 2009

Francisco Alvarez De Soto, Deputy Foreign Minister, presented his resignation Wednesday, February 27 a day after the announcement of the Fabrega appointment.

The resignation was confirmed by government spokesman, Luis Eduardo Camacho However, Camacho said that by late afternoon the resignation has not been accepted by the president since it was an "official engagement".
