The debatable $267,500 carnival contract
The controversy over the hiring of Reggaeton artist Don Omar to perform at Panama’s carnival continues with wide discrepancies over the amount of his payment.
Don Omar said Wednesday that he agreed to perform at the Panama City Carnival through the Relentless Agency of Juan Toro, but he never received a deposit in his account as part of the contract said La Prensa.
"Yesterday, I was talking to Juan Toro, trying to solve this, but after this I do not think that we can continue to work together. I am not a scammer or irresponsible, but I never received any money from Juan Toro," Omar said.
The artist continued that he never received a contract from Juan Toro, who never reported how much he would make and that no deposit was ever made. He said the sum of $267,500 was never told to him.
"A show for a thousand people does not cost the same as for 45,000 people. I don't know where they got that I was going to receive that figure," said the artist.
The singer said that in his last show, before 25,000 people, he only made $50,000, though some shows he charges as much as $150,000.
Government documents show he was to be paid $267,500.
Omar also said that it is not the first time that he has had a problem with the Relentless Agency and that there had been previous difficulties with payments and contracts.
"I don't want my name used to something that was not done as it should have been," he said.
He defended his personal manager Adam Torres, "Yes, there is a message saying that I wanted to go to Panama, but just because I want to go does not mean that we will move without a contract," he said.
