Mayors budget gets thumbs down

Panama City Council of Panama finance committee has rejected the mayor’s $109 budget proposed for 2013.

Mayor  Roxana Mendez, garnered only one vote. Four voted against budget cuts that included $7.4 million to community boards.

Mendez had proposed that the Mayor of Panama was the entity responsible for managing the money of the community boards. This action was described by the councilors as a way of "economically strangling the representatives of the people in their local wards."
