Feeding budget for prisoners and guards shrinks
The price of the basic food basket continues to climb in Panama but a call for a contract to feed prisoners and their guards wants more for less.
In 2010, five companies bid to serve food for two years for $34 million. Now the government, with an increasing prison population, is calling for bids totaling $101.6 million for seven years
The service contract includes the daily supply of food and balanced nutrition for prisoners and guards in prisons located in the provinces of Panama and Colon for a period of seven (7) consecutive years at an annual servings rate of 4,609,220.00.
The date and time for submission of proposals is September 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
