Yummy mummies and rich husbands
Observers of Panama’s social scene might be drawn to a kindred spirit by some of the comments of Cherie Blair, the QC (Queen’s Counsel) wife of former UK prime minister Tony Blair.
The mother of four on Tuesday June19, attacked "yummy mummies" who stay at home raising children at the expense of their careers, "seeking to marry a rich husband and retire".
She told Fortune magazine's Most Powerful Women event in Claridge's hotel in London that their children lacked drive and independence.
The news comes as a political columnist in The Week writes of a move within Britain’s Labour Party to purge itself of “Blairites”.
Blair remains highly unpopular among many in the country because of his support of President George Bush, untraced Weapons of Mass Destruction and the invasion of Iraq. He was referred to as Bush's poodle.
Cherie has said she never stops worrying about money. “It’s nice to be comfortable, but I’ll probably never ever stop worrying that I’ve got enough,” the Daily Star quoted her as saying. Tony, since leaving office has earned multi-millions as an advisor to major business operations including banks and insurance companies.
