May Day marchers calling for lower food prices
Panama workers taking part in the traditional May Day marches will be demanding freedom of association and lower food prices.
Union leader Genaro Lopez said on RPC Radio. On Tuesday, May 1 that there is currently “no control” on prices of essential items. When people go to supermarkets "every day the wages of workers are reduced."
He also said that Panamanian workers want respect for freedom of association and in Panama the State, banks and the Colon Free Zone, do not allow workers State to form a union. For this reason, Lopez said, Panama continues to appear on the lists of the nations that fail to comply with human rights.
Beginning at 4:00 pm on May 1 workers will march from Parque Porras to the Plaza Cinco de Mayo.
