Protestors start hunger strike

The indigenous protests over mining and hydroelectricity took a new turn Thursday as leaders turned up the pressure of government negotiators.

A group of Ngäbe Bugle, began a hunger strike at the intersection of Las Lajas and San Felix Chiriqui , which has been a focal point of protests for over month and where confrontations with the police have led to deaths and injuries  for protestors.

Francisco Miranda,  a local leader  said he does not know how long the strike will  last but   the government of President Ricardo Martinelli  will be responsible if  something happens to the participants.
