Martinelli announced weekly good news broadcast

Panama’s president Ricardo Martinelli, whose popularity ratings have been in free fall with  the administration mired in  multiple corruption scandals has unveiled a new government communications strategy.

Bringing messages of good cheer.

He will be  appearing on a weekly radio and television show called The Chairman Announces that will begin airing in 2012.

"That is nothing like Chavez for the love of God,"he said  after critics compared  him with Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Rafael Correa of Ecuador, who have similar programs that are broadcast on national radio and television.

According to Martinelli, the five minute program will have only  "positive messages" devoted to the fulfilling of campaign promises.

"We'll talk about the housing projects, of universal scholarships, Opportunities Network, $100 for the 70s and all we are  doing for the people of Panama,"

He made his  statements on Monday afternmoon in the Sona district, of Veraguas where he attended the laying of the first sod for the construction of residential project "Brisas de Sona", where nearly $4 million will be invested in relocation housing for families currently living in floodplains of the region.
