Civic groups uniting to fight privatization moves
Panama’s National Civic Coordinator, which brings together 60 citizen groups, has, called for a public debate on Bill 349, which plans to create a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and which led to the recent doctor's strike.
The statement comes at the beginning of the extraordinary sessions of the National Assembly on Monday December 5.
Part of the statement said that "if the government did not understand the message from society, to initiate a public debate between all Panamanians or let them decide through a referendum, if the country is to be sold financial capital groups and large transnational corporations.”
The Coordinator has invited people to the National Assembly on Monday at 4:00 pm to ask members to withdraw the bill.
From Thursday December 15 Coordinator groups will hold a vigil in El Carmen Church of Carmen at 5:00 pm.
