Panama KPC death toll rises to 22
The death toll of patients in Panama’s social security (CSS) hospital from (KPC) (Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase) has climbed to 22.
The latest death, announced at a press conference on Thursday -occurred on Wednesday night August 10.
The patient was one of 15 people still in d identified as having the bacteria, said the Director of Medical Services of the CSS, Javier Diaz.
On the day of the conference 16 patients who met the criteria of the evaluation committee, were transferred to the December 24 Regional Hospital .
For a patient to be moved he or she must be KPC negative, with no open wound, and no infections. On Friday August 12 another four patients, from the first group of 20 that received approval ,will be moved.
Aotherpatients are being checked to determine whether they are fit to be moved.
