Prosecutor in center of judicial storm on vacation
A public prosecutor involved in a swirl of accusations linking him to the dismissal of a case involving a fraud merchant alleged to have provided funds to the Ricardo Martinelli election campaign, has been sent on vacation.
William Parodi had called for money laundering charges against David Murcia Guzmán to be dropped .At that time, presidential candidate Balbina Herrera was seeking an investigation into the alleged connection between the proceeds of the activities of Murcia and Martinelli campaign. Murcia was later extradited to Columbia, and sentenced to 32 years in jail. He is now in the U.S. on money laundering charges to which he has pleaded guilty.
As a prosecutor Parodi also handled inquiries into Murcia for the illegal taking of funds. In this case, according to Herrera and forensic sources, supposed proof of the existence of a bank transfer to confirm that Murcia Guzmán, through his financial adviser Ernesto Chong Coronado, donated money to the Martinellicampaign.
Besides these two cases, in his short tenure in the Drug office after the arrival of Giuseppe Bonissi at the Public Ministry (MP), Parodi requested the provisional dismissal of Murcia Guzmán, Chong, and others for money laundering.
The role played by Parodi in these cases has come to light after complaints of ex judge Zulay Rodríguez Ana about the removal of Ana Matilde Gómez from her post as Attorney General
In her complaint, Zulay Rodríguez citedParodi and other individuals involved in the ousting of Gomez, includihng a friend Parodi, ex Supreme Court Judge José Abel Almengor.
Parodi was posted on vacation on Monday, April 18 until next May 10 as part of a procedure ordered by the curfrent Attorney General, Jose Ayu Prado, "to avoid the accumulation of vacation. "
Parodi will have another two holiday periods 1 to July 30 and from 1 to 30 December.
