Theatre Guild rallies to support Missions program

View From the Pew

The Ancon Theatre Guild provides not only quality performances for the English speaking community, in Panama, but is also contributing to help the disadvantaged in the country it has entertained for over 60 years.

That was exemplified on Sunday, February 27, when the Guild gave Balboa Union Church (BUC) $600 dollars from theater receipts for the church’s Missions work.   Phil Edmonston, Missions Chair, accepted the donations. {jathumbnail off}

The Theatre Guild of Ancon has been a non-profit English language community theater in Panama  since 1950. Balboa Union Church has been “the big pink church on the hill” in Balboa since 1917. The first stone was laid September 25, 1917 and the church was consecrated on January 25, 1926. It serves both English and Spanish worshippers with even a few Canadians and Swiss thrown into the mix.

For years, BUC has worked closely with Panama’s many cultural and religious groups to provide assistance to the hungry and dispirited. As an ecumenical church, Balboa Union Church invites all members of the community for Sunday services, regardless of their race, creed, sex, or sexual orientation.

For many decades,Balboa Union Church has supported  four Missions projects: feeding seniors in Rio Abajo; feeding children in Chilibre; ensuring that indigenous children get proper care and feeding in Veraguas; and using the Pastor’s Indigent Assistance Fund in Panama City to help those in urgent need. In early December 2010, BUC took a needy Veracruz family into its care as a fifth project.
