Garbage collection under control but battle with rodents continues

For those who remember the confusion emanating from City Hall over Panama’s garbage collection problems, there is good news from the new collection authority
According to the Urban and Household Sanitation Authority (AAUD) garbage collection in Panama City is under control, and the service has been "normalized."
After months of garbage piling up on streets, and the multiple excuses for the inefficiency produced by City Mayor Bosco Vallarino the definition of normal is not yet clear.
According to the records of the entity, since this past Jan. 3, when the AAUD began operations, they have collected an estimated 45,309 tons of garbage.
AAUD claims it has achieved the goal of cleaning up the city through constant cleaning operations that are continuing.
Meanwhile mutiple health checks that are underway by the Ministry of Health (MINSA) because of the plague of rats and mice that developed while the back log was building up.
Health officials have warned of numerous quantities of rodents, emerging emerged across the city, especially in humid places and where food waste accumulated.
The communities identified as having litters rodents are: San Francisco, Calidonia, Río Abajo, Pedregal, and Curundú.
Health authorities are maintaining control checks, aimed at killing offspring of the rodents.
