Merger with Martinelli led CD party opposed by many Molirena activists
One Molirena party meeting over a proposed merger with the Cambio Democratic (CD) ended up with fisticuffs, a second one in Chiriqui on the weekend rejected the idea.
Many Molirena members don’t want to see their party disbanded and handed over to the Ricardo Martinelli created, and led, CD.
A meeting of Molirena officials at party headquarters on Saturday, January 29, was highly contentious, while party officials meeting in David restated their opposition to the merger.
Opponents said that they would continue to support a political alliance with the CD, but would not support the disbanding of the party.
The merger is being supported by Molirena Party President Sergio González Ruiz.
