CRISIS: Government coughs up $805,000 for bottled water

With Panama’s water crisis entering its 41st day, the government has had to dig deep and $805,000 for the purchase of three million bottles of water for residents in affected areas.

Meanwhile Popular Party chairman, Milton Henríquez, has revealed that a year and a half ago, consultant Jorge Arboleda Valencia presented a report to Manuel González Ruiz, Director of the national water authority IDAAN, warning about  potential damage if the entity was not operated efficiently.
Henriquez wants the National Assembly establish a committee to investigate the water crisis and has asked that the consultant’s report be made public.
Despite actions taken to address the problem, water processed by the Chilibre plant is still not yet fit for human consumption.
