A fund raising event for local charities in Boquete set an ambitious target: to raise more money in one two-day weekend, than the previous total over four years.

Bid-4 Boquete succeeded in Diamonds on the weekend starting December 4. The  previous total was $42,000. This year almost $55,000 was raised, a tremendous  tribute to the organizers and the warm hearts and open pocket books of residents of Chiriqui and beyond.

The rewards of effort

The event started on Saturday December 4 y with a wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres pre-auction party, when the benefiting local charities were introduced: Amigos de  Animales de Boquete (which conducts spay/neuter clinics); Buenos Vecinos de Boquete (feeding over 80 elderly and handicapped people every month), Club Leones de Boquete (focusing  on education and the driving force behind the new three-storey library opening soon in  Boquete) and Fundacion Pro-Integracion Handicap Center (providing  a place for socializing  for the handicapped and contributng financially to their health, education and wellbeing).

Great eats for ev eryone

Corporate sponsors were Banco General Bistro Boquete/Felipe Motta (the wine tasting sponsor), Boquete Quality Properties, Casa Solution, Chiriqui Storage, Financial Pacific, and Prestige Custom Builders.

The two-day event was organized by co-chairs Penny Barrett, Martine Heyer, and Bonnie Williams, assisted by 27 committee chairs and over one hundred volunteers.

It shows that if you want to do it you can, and that “New  and Old Panamanians” care. An inspiration for other organizers and expats who want to contribute to the country that has adopted them.
