CRIME: Panama homicide rate declines says report

In the first ten months of the year Panama recorded 635 homicides according to a report in El Siglo, the country’s largest circulation tabloid.

The figures were culled from media reports, and show a 4.5 percent decrease from the official government figures for the same period last year, but there is still one homicide every 12 hours.

In the same period in 2009, there were 664. killings.
Although there is a decrease in the number of murders committed, the average of more than two killings a day continues. In the first 10 months of 2010, there were 2.8 murders per day.
During the 10 months 44 women have been killed.
