Prosecutor of former Attorney General may face the music today
The man who led the legal charge against the former Attorney General for authorizing wire tapping. will learn on Monday (Aug 23) if he will face charges for — illegally ordering wiretaps.
State proecutior Oscar Ceville has been accused by a former state security official of ordering wiretaps starting in 2005. Ceville has denied the accusation.
The case carries added significance asCeville recently successfully had former Attorney General Ana Matilde Gómez hunhg out to dry for the same offense. Gómez has said that she is the victim of a politically-motivated prosecution, and the decision to find her guilty divided the country’s Supreme Court along party lines.
Prosecutor Naphtali Jaén, who is handling the case, said that a team investigating the claims has finished collecting evidence and conducting interviews. He said that he will announce the next step in the case, namely whether or not it will be prosecuted, on Monday.
